Role Summary

The Payment Scheme Operations Specialist will oversee operational activities associated with card payment networks, payment schemes, and related financial infrastructure. The role focuses on supporting payment scheme requirements, monitoring operational performance, coordinating payment-related changes, and ensuring that internal processes remain aligned with applicable network rules and operational standards.

The successful candidate will work with payment operations, compliance, finance, product, and technical teams to manage scheme-related activities and resolve operational issues. This position requires an understanding of payment processing, card network operations, and the procedures that support secure and efficient electronic transactions.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate operational activities relating to payment schemes, card networks, and electronic payment infrastructure.

• Monitor payment processing performance and identify issues affecting transaction authorisation, clearing, and settlement.

• Support the implementation of payment scheme updates, operational requirements, and network rule changes.

• Maintain documentation covering payment scheme procedures, operational workflows, and internal controls.

• Liaise with acquiring partners, issuing institutions, payment processors, and relevant external service providers.

• Investigate payment processing exceptions and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.

• Assist with the implementation and testing of new payment capabilities and scheme-related technical changes.

• Monitor operational compliance with applicable payment network requirements and internal procedures.

• Prepare reports covering transaction performance, processing exceptions, settlement issues, and scheme-related activities.

• Collaborate with compliance specialists to review operational obligations and identify potential control gaps.

• Support internal audits and operational reviews by providing payment records and supporting documentation.

• Identify opportunities to improve payment processing efficiency and strengthen operational procedures.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

• Previous experience in payment operations, card scheme management, payment processing, or financial services.

• Understanding of card payment lifecycles, including authorisation, clearing, settlement, refunds, and chargebacks.

• Familiarity with payment schemes such as Visa and Mastercard is an advantage.

• Knowledge of payment processing systems and relationships between issuers, acquirers, and payment service providers.

• Understanding of PCI DSS principles and payment security requirements is beneficial.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Experience preparing operational reports and maintaining structured documentation.

• Good communication and stakeholder coordination skills.

• Ability to manage operational priorities and meet established deadlines.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a remote environment.
