The Opportunity

A technology-focused fintech organisation in Estonia is seeking an accomplished Head of Financial Platform Engineering to lead the engineering function responsible for core financial infrastructure.

This is a strategic technology leadership position covering platform architecture, engineering standards, technical delivery, reliability, and team development. The successful candidate will work closely with product and executive leadership to ensure the organisation can scale its financial technology safely and efficiently.

The Role

You will provide technical direction across services responsible for accounts, balances, transactions, payment flows, financial data, and supporting infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the engineering strategy for core financial platforms.
• Lead multiple engineering teams delivering critical financial services.
• Establish standards for architecture, coding practices, testing, deployment, observability, and operational resilience.
• Oversee development of highly available transaction-processing systems.
• Partner with architects to evolve platform architecture as business requirements and transaction volumes grow.
• Establish engineering approaches for data integrity, idempotency, reconciliation, auditability, and fault tolerance.
• Work closely with security and compliance teams to embed appropriate controls into engineering processes.
• Drive modernisation of legacy components while protecting business continuity.
• Establish engineering metrics covering reliability, delivery performance, system health, and technical debt.
• Recruit, coach, and develop senior engineering leaders and technical specialists.
• Participate in strategic technology planning, investment decisions, and executive reviews.

Candidate Profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant technical leadership responsibility.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams within fintech, banking, payments, or another mission-critical technology environment.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, microservices, databases, cloud infrastructure, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience designing systems where financial accuracy and transactional consistency are essential.
• Strong knowledge of modern engineering practices, DevOps, observability, and reliability engineering.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to balance long-term architecture with practical business delivery.
