Role Summary

The Fintech Database Reliability Engineer will be responsible for supporting the availability, performance, security, and reliability of database environments used across financial technology applications.

The role involves database performance monitoring, backup management, query optimisation, incident investigation, and infrastructure improvements. The successful candidate will collaborate with software engineers, DevOps specialists, and infrastructure teams to ensure that financial applications have dependable access to critical data.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor database systems supporting fintech applications.

• Improve database performance through query optimisation and indexing.

• Monitor database availability, resource utilisation, and system health.

• Implement and maintain database backup and recovery procedures.

• Investigate database errors and resolve performance-related incidents.

• Support database replication and high-availability configurations.

• Review database access permissions and security configurations.

• Assist with database migrations and infrastructure upgrades.

• Develop monitoring procedures for database performance and reliability.

• Collaborate with software engineers on data access and application performance issues.

• Maintain technical documentation and database administration procedures.

• Support disaster recovery testing and database restoration activities.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

• At least 4 years of experience in database administration or database engineering.

• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.

• Proficiency in SQL and database performance optimisation.

• Experience with database backup, replication, and recovery procedures.

• Understanding of high-availability database architecture.

• Familiarity with cloud database services and infrastructure monitoring.

• Knowledge of Linux administration and scripting is an advantage.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent technical documentation and communication skills.
