Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Financial Data Engineer to build and improve the data infrastructure supporting modern fintech products.
Financial platforms generate enormous volumes of structured and transactional data. Turning that information into reliable, accessible, and secure data products requires strong engineering discipline.
In this role, you will develop data pipelines and infrastructure used to process financial information, transaction records, customer activity, operational data, and analytical datasets.
You will work closely with engineering, product, analytics, risk, and financial operations teams to ensure that critical data is accurate, available, traceable, and usable.
Core Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable data pipelines for financial and transactional datasets.
- Build reliable ETL and ELT processes for structured and semi-structured data.
- Integrate data from APIs, databases, internal applications, and external financial systems.
- Develop data models suitable for analytics, reporting, operational applications, and financial analysis.
- Optimize data-processing workflows for performance and reliability.
- Implement data-quality checks and monitoring mechanisms.
- Investigate data inconsistencies and resolve pipeline-related issues.
- Maintain documentation covering data sources, transformations, dependencies, and data lineage.
- Collaborate with analysts and product teams to translate data requirements into engineering solutions.
- Support real-time and batch data-processing environments where appropriate.
- Contribute to the development of secure data architectures.
- Help establish standards for data validation, governance, and lifecycle management.
- Improve the availability and reliability of financial datasets used across the organization.
Technical Environment
The ideal candidate should have experience with several technologies commonly used in modern data engineering environments, such as:
- Python or another modern programming language.
- SQL and relational databases.
- Data pipelines and workflow orchestration.
- Cloud-based data platforms.
- REST APIs and data integration.
- ETL/ELT architecture.
- Data warehousing and data modelling.
- Distributed processing concepts.
- Git and modern development workflows.
- Monitoring, logging, and automated testing.
Experience with streaming technologies, event-driven architectures, machine-learning data pipelines, or financial data platforms would be an additional advantage.
Candidate Profile
You are likely to succeed in this position if you enjoy working with large, complex datasets and technically challenging problems.
You should be comfortable questioning data quality, tracing problems back to their source, and designing systems that remain dependable as transaction volumes increase.
A background in fintech, banking, payments, financial analytics, SaaS, or another data-intensive technology environment is desirable.
What You Bring
- Professional experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
- Strong SQL skills and practical database knowledge.
- Experience building or maintaining production data pipelines.
- Strong programming and debugging capabilities.
- Understanding of data modelling and data architecture.
- Ability to work with APIs and multiple data sources.
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
- Understanding of data security and responsible handling of sensitive financial information.
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Professional English proficiency.
Why This Role Matters
Financial technology depends on trustworthy data. Whether the requirement involves transaction monitoring, financial reporting, product analytics, risk analysis, or customer-facing services, poor-quality data can quickly become a business-critical problem.
This position gives you the opportunity to work on the data infrastructure behind modern fintech products, while developing expertise across financial systems, cloud engineering, data architecture, and high-volume transactional environments.
For a data professional looking to build a serious career within Estonia’s technology and fintech ecosystem, this is a role with substantial technical depth and international relevance.
