-
System Reliability: Monitor platform health, identify performance bottlenecks, address recurring infrastructure problems, and contribute to reliability targets and service-level objectives.
-
Security Integration: Apply secure configuration practices, manage secrets appropriately, support vulnerability remediation, and integrate security checks into development pipelines.
-
Incident Response: Investigate production incidents, coordinate technical resolution, document root causes, and implement preventive measures to minimise recurrence.
-
Performance and Cost Optimisation: Analyse cloud resource consumption, improve infrastructure efficiency, and recommend practical measures to control operational expenditure.
-
Collaboration with Development Teams: Work closely with software engineers to improve application deployment, environment consistency, configuration management, and production readiness.
-
Technical Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation covering infrastructure architecture, deployment processes, operational procedures, disaster recovery, and incident handling.
Qualifications and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
-
Demonstrable experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, systems administration, or software infrastructure.
-
Strong working knowledge of at least one major cloud platform, preferably AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
-
Practical experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.
-
Experience with Docker and a sound understanding of Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.
-
Proficiency in infrastructure automation using Terraform, OpenTofu, Ansible, or equivalent tools.
-
Working knowledge of Linux administration, networking fundamentals, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, firewalls, and load balancing.
-
Ability to write automation scripts using Python, Bash, or another suitable scripting language.
-
Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, or comparable platforms.
-
Understanding of source control, branching strategies, release management, and collaborative software development workflows.
-
Knowledge of cloud security, access management, secrets handling, backup procedures, and disaster recovery principles.
-
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and technical documentation skills.
Technical Environment
The engineer may work with a combination of the following technologies, depending on the platform and business requirements:
-
Cloud: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform
-
Containers: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm
-
CI/CD: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, Azure DevOps
-
Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, OpenTofu, Ansible
-
Operating Systems: Linux, Ubuntu, Debian
-
Scripting: Python, Bash, PowerShell
-
Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK Stack
-
Version Control: Git, GitHub, GitLab
-
Security: IAM, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, container image scanning
-
Networking: TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, reverse proxies, load balancers
-
Operational Practices: Incident management, change management, backup and recovery, service-level objectives
Candidates are not expected to have expertise in every listed technology. Strong fundamentals, practical experience, and the ability to learn new tools are particularly important.
Core Competencies
Technical execution: Demonstrates the ability to design, implement, and maintain reliable infrastructure rather than relying exclusively on manual operational procedures.
Automation mindset: Identifies repetitive tasks and develops sustainable automation that improves consistency, efficiency, and operational control.
Reliability and accountability: Understands the importance of production stability, investigates failures systematically, and follows issues through to resolution.
Security awareness: Incorporates security considerations into infrastructure design, deployment pipelines, access controls, and daily operational practices.
Cross-functional collaboration: Communicates effectively with developers, QA teams, security specialists, and other technical stakeholders.
Continuous improvement: Evaluates existing processes, identifies weaknesses, and recommends measurable improvements to infrastructure and software delivery.
Performance Expectations
Performance will be assessed against practical engineering outcomes, including:
-
Improved reliability and repeatability of deployment processes.
-
Reduced manual intervention and avoidable deployment failures.
-
Effective monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
-
Consistent infrastructure configuration across development, testing, and production.
-
Timely resolution of infrastructure and platform issues.
-
Appropriate implementation of security controls and operational safeguards.
-
Clear, maintained technical documentation.
-
Responsible use of cloud resources and ongoing infrastructure optimisation.
First-Year Objectives
During the first year, the successful candidate is expected to:
-
Develop a thorough understanding of the existing infrastructure, deployment architecture, and operational requirements.
-
Identify opportunities to improve automation, deployment consistency, and infrastructure management.
-
Strengthen CI/CD pipelines and introduce practical safeguards for software releases.
-
Improve monitoring coverage, alert quality, and incident investigation procedures.
-
Contribute to infrastructure security, backup and recovery readiness, and configuration standardisation.
-
Establish measurable improvements in deployment efficiency, platform reliability, or cloud resource utilisation.
Objectives will be aligned with the organisation’s technical maturity, business priorities, and existing infrastructure.
Why This Opportunity
This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to the engineering foundations of a growing technology environment in Estonia. The successful candidate will help shape how software is built, tested, deployed, monitored, and maintained, with a clear focus on automation, resilience, and operational excellence.
The position also provides opportunities to expand expertise across cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, container orchestration, security automation, and modern software delivery practices. Engineers who demonstrate strong technical judgement and a consistent record of delivery may progress into senior DevOps, cloud engineering, or platform engineering positions as the organisation’s needs evolve.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a technically capable and methodical engineer who understands that effective DevOps extends beyond maintaining servers or configuring deployment tools. They can connect infrastructure decisions to software delivery, system availability, security, developer productivity, and business continuity.
They are comfortable investigating complex technical issues, documenting solutions, collaborating across engineering teams, and improving systems incrementally. They value automation, maintainability, and measurable outcomes, while recognising the importance of secure and controlled changes in production environments.
Candidates with practical cloud engineering experience, strong scripting skills, and a commitment to reliable software delivery are encouraged to apply.
