Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to develop, maintain, and optimise the server-side systems that power modern financial technology platforms. The successful candidate will contribute to the design of secure APIs, scalable application services, and reliable data-processing systems that support digital payments, financial applications, and account management solutions.

This position is suited to an engineer who combines strong programming fundamentals with an understanding of system reliability, data integrity, and secure software development. You will collaborate with frontend engineers, product specialists, and quality assurance teams to deliver robust backend services in a modern technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications, RESTful APIs, and internal services.

• Build secure and efficient services for payment processing, transaction management, and financial data handling.

• Develop database schemas, optimise queries, and maintain data consistency across applications.

• Implement authentication, authorisation, encryption practices, and appropriate access controls.

• Identify performance bottlenecks, investigate production issues, and improve application reliability.

• Write automated tests and maintain clear technical documentation.

• Participate in code reviews, technical planning, and continuous integration and delivery processes.

• Work with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into dependable technical solutions.

Candidate Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.

• Professional experience developing backend applications using Java, Kotlin, Python, C#, Go, or Node.js.

• Practical knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.

• Experience designing APIs, integrating third-party services, and working with distributed application components.

• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, Docker, and CI/CD workflows.

• Understanding of application security, performance optimisation, and secure data management.

• Strong analytical, debugging, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Technical Environment

The role may involve cloud-hosted applications, containerised services, API integrations, relational databases, monitoring tools, and automated deployment pipelines. Experience with financial systems, transaction-heavy applications, or regulated technology environments would be advantageous.
