Role Summary

The Fintech Merchant Settlement Operations Analyst will manage and monitor settlement activities relating to merchant transactions processed through digital payment systems. The role focuses on validating settlement information, tracking merchant payouts, investigating payment delays and ensuring that transaction proceeds are correctly allocated and reported.

The successful candidate will work with payment operations, finance, merchant support and external payment partners to resolve settlement-related issues and maintain accurate merchant account records.

The position requires a strong understanding of payment processing, merchant acquiring, transaction settlement and financial reconciliation. The analyst will also contribute to operational improvements that support timely and reliable merchant payouts.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor daily merchant settlement activities across supported payment processing channels.

• Review transaction reports and settlement files received from acquiring banks and payment service providers.

• Verify merchant payout calculations and investigate discrepancies between processed transactions and settlement amounts.

• Track pending, delayed and unsuccessful merchant settlements.

• Investigate settlement differences caused by refunds, chargebacks, processing fees or transaction adjustments.

• Maintain accurate records of merchant settlement activity and outstanding financial exceptions.

• Coordinate with payment processors and banking partners to resolve payout-related issues.

• Support the reconciliation of merchant balances against internal payment processing records.

• Monitor settlement schedules and ensure that payout activities follow established operational procedures.

• Prepare reports covering merchant settlement performance, outstanding balances and payment exceptions.

• Collaborate with finance teams during period-end settlement reconciliation and financial reporting.

• Review merchant account information to support accurate settlement instructions.

• Identify recurring settlement problems and recommend corrective operational measures.

• Assist with testing settlement system updates and improvements to payout workflows.

• Maintain documentation covering settlement procedures, exception handling and operational controls.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Banking or Business Administration.

• Professional experience in merchant services, payment operations, settlement processing or financial reconciliation.

• Understanding of card acquiring, payment processing and merchant payout procedures.

• Familiarity with payment service provider platforms and banking settlement reports.

• Strong Excel skills and experience analysing transaction datasets.

• Knowledge of refunds, chargebacks, processing fees and settlement adjustments.

• Ability to investigate financial discrepancies and resolve operational exceptions.

• Familiarity with SQL or payment reporting systems is an advantage.

• Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.

• Excellent written communication and coordination skills.

• Ability to manage multiple settlement activities and meet operational deadlines.

• Understanding of payment security and financial data confidentiality requirements.
