Role Summary

The Financial Data Migration Specialist will coordinate and execute data migration activities involving financial applications, databases, and interconnected fintech platforms.

The role focuses on extracting, transforming, validating, and transferring financial information while ensuring that records remain accurate, complete, and consistent throughout migration projects.

The successful candidate will work with data engineers, financial operations specialists, software developers, and business stakeholders to prepare migration requirements, investigate data inconsistencies, and validate migrated information.

This position requires practical experience with structured data, database systems, financial records, and migration processes. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with complex datasets and maintaining high standards of data integrity during system transitions.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute financial data migration activities between legacy systems and modern financial technology platforms.

• Extract financial records from source databases, operational applications, and reporting systems.

• Transform financial data into formats compatible with destination platforms.

• Develop and maintain data mapping specifications for financial accounts, transactions, customer records, and reporting information.

• Perform data profiling to identify incomplete, duplicated, inconsistent, or incorrectly formatted records.

• Implement validation procedures to confirm the accuracy and completeness of migrated information.

• Collaborate with finance teams to verify balances, transaction histories, account references, and other critical financial records.

• Support the migration of payment transaction data, customer account information, settlement records, and financial reporting datasets.

• Investigate migration errors and coordinate corrective actions with technical and business stakeholders.

• Develop SQL queries and data validation scripts to support migration testing.

• Maintain migration logs, reconciliation records, and issue documentation.

• Participate in migration rehearsals, testing cycles, and production cutover activities.

• Support post-migration verification to ensure that financial information remains consistent across systems.

• Work with engineering teams to improve data transformation and migration procedures.

• Ensure that sensitive financial information is handled according to established security and access control requirements.

• Prepare migration completion reports and technical documentation for internal stakeholders.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Finance, or a related discipline.

• At least three years of experience in data migration, database administration, data engineering, or financial systems implementation.

• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.

• Practical knowledge of data extraction, transformation, and loading processes.

• Experience preparing data mapping specifications and migration validation procedures.

• Understanding of financial data structures, account records, transaction histories, and reconciliation processes.

• Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages for data processing and validation.

• Experience working with CSV, JSON, XML, and structured financial data formats.

• Knowledge of database integrity, data normalization, and data quality principles.

• Familiarity with cloud-based databases and data integration platforms is advantageous.

• Ability to investigate complex data discrepancies and develop effective solutions.

• Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.

• Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate with technical and non-technical teams.

• Experience migrating data between banking, payment, accounting, or fintech platforms is an advantage.
