The organisation is therefore seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer who can strengthen its cloud engineering capabilities, improve deployment workflows, and establish consistent infrastructure standards across development, testing, and production environments.

Role Summary

The Senior DevOps Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the automation systems that support the organisation’s financial applications and technology platforms. The position combines cloud infrastructure engineering, infrastructure as code, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), release automation, monitoring, and operational troubleshooting.

The successful candidate will work closely with software developers, platform engineers, security specialists, and technical leadership to ensure that applications can be delivered safely, efficiently, and repeatedly. A key objective will be to reduce manual operational work, improve deployment consistency, and create infrastructure processes that remain manageable as systems grow.

This role is suitable for an experienced engineer who understands modern DevOps practices and can translate operational requirements into maintainable technical solutions. The position also requires sound judgement when managing production changes, diagnosing infrastructure failures, and balancing delivery speed with reliability and security.

Key Responsibilities

• Cloud infrastructure management: Design, provision, configure, and maintain cloud environments supporting financial applications, internal services, APIs, databases, and other business-critical workloads.

• Infrastructure as code: Develop and maintain reusable infrastructure templates using tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu, or equivalent technologies, ensuring that infrastructure changes are version-controlled, reviewable, and reproducible.

• CI/CD pipeline development: Build, maintain, and optimise automated pipelines for application compilation, testing, security checks, artifact management, deployment, and release verification.

• Deployment automation: Establish repeatable deployment procedures across development, staging, and production environments while reducing configuration drift and unnecessary manual intervention.

• Container infrastructure: Support containerised workloads using Docker and Kubernetes or comparable orchestration platforms, including deployment configuration, resource allocation, and service connectivity.

• Operational reliability: Investigate deployment failures, infrastructure incidents, application connectivity problems, and resource constraints, implementing corrective measures that address root causes.

• Security integration: Incorporate secret management, access controls, dependency scanning, container image validation, and infrastructure security checks into automated delivery workflows.

• Monitoring and alerting: Implement appropriate metrics, logs, dashboards, and alerts to provide visibility into infrastructure health, application performance, and deployment outcomes.

• Environment standardisation: Establish consistent configuration management practices and operational documentation to support reliable development and production environments.

• Cost optimisation: Monitor cloud resource consumption, identify inefficient infrastructure usage, and recommend improvements without compromising application performance or resilience.

• Disaster recovery support: Contribute to backup procedures, recovery testing, infrastructure restoration plans, and continuity arrangements for important financial services.

• Engineering collaboration: Work with developers and other technical specialists to improve application deployment readiness, resolve infrastructure dependencies, and promote operational best practices.

• Continuous improvement: Review existing workflows, identify recurring operational bottlenecks, and introduce automation that improves engineering productivity and platform stability.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Substantial professional experience in DevOps engineering, cloud infrastructure, platform operations, or software delivery automation.

• Practical experience with at least one major cloud provider, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

• Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code, preferably Terraform, OpenTofu, or similar provisioning tools.

• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or comparable platforms.

• Working knowledge of Linux administration, networking fundamentals, DNS, TLS, load balancing, firewalls, and service connectivity.

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, container registries, and container deployment practices.

• Familiarity with configuration management, environment variables, secret storage, and secure handling of deployment credentials.

• Ability to develop automation scripts using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or another suitable scripting language.

• Understanding of monitoring, logging, alerting, incident response, and production troubleshooting.

• Knowledge of cloud security fundamentals, least-privilege access, vulnerability management, and secure deployment practices.

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to investigate technical problems systematically.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document complex technical processes.

• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while coordinating effectively with distributed engineering teams.
