Role Summary

The Remote Full-Stack Engineer — API Integrations, Data Services & Application Reliability will develop application features with particular emphasis on backend integration, data consistency, and reliable communication between software systems. The role combines frontend development with server-side engineering, API implementation, database interaction, and technical troubleshooting.

The engineer will build and maintain interfaces that consume backend services, develop endpoints that expose application functionality, and integrate internal applications with third-party platforms where required. They will also investigate integration failures, validate incoming and outgoing data, improve error handling, and help ensure that application behaviour remains predictable under normal operating conditions.

This role is suitable for a full-stack professional who enjoys solving cross-system problems and understanding how information moves through a software platform. The successful candidate will be expected to write maintainable code, test critical workflows, document integration behaviour, and work with colleagues to resolve issues that affect application quality or reliability.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain full-stack application features involving frontend interfaces, backend business logic, database operations, and external service integrations.
• Build responsive web interfaces using JavaScript or TypeScript and a modern frontend framework such as React, Vue, or a comparable technology.
• Design, implement, and maintain backend APIs using Node.js or another appropriate server-side technology.
• Integrate applications with external APIs, authentication providers, payment or business services, and other systems relevant to product requirements.
• Define and maintain API contracts, request and response structures, validation rules, error responses, and integration documentation.
• Implement reliable handling of network failures, API timeouts, invalid responses, rate limits, and other integration-related exceptions.
• Design and maintain database tables, relationships, queries, and data-access logic that support application functionality and data consistency.
• Validate incoming data and enforce appropriate business rules before information is processed, stored, or passed to another system.
• Develop frontend workflows that clearly communicate loading states, validation errors, failed requests, and successful transactions to users.
• Implement appropriate authentication, authorisation, input validation, and secure credential-handling practices across application components.
• Investigate defects involving API communication, inconsistent records, database queries, frontend state, and third-party service behaviour.
• Write automated tests for API endpoints, data transformations, critical user journeys, and integration workflows.
• Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions, ensuring that solutions are maintainable, testable, and aligned with established engineering standards.
• Monitor application errors, review relevant logs, and use diagnostic information to identify recurring integration or reliability issues.
• Improve performance by reviewing API latency, inefficient queries, unnecessary data transfers, and avoidable frontend requests.
• Support the development and maintenance of CI/CD workflows, automated checks, and application deployment procedures.
• Collaborate with DevOps or infrastructure colleagues to investigate environment configuration, deployment issues, and service connectivity problems.
• Maintain documentation covering API usage, data dependencies, integration configuration, error-handling behaviour, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Coordinate with product, support, and quality assurance teams to reproduce reported issues and verify that fixes address the underlying problem.
• Assess the potential impact of third-party API changes and contribute to implementation plans that minimise disruption to application functionality.
• Identify opportunities to reduce duplicated integration code, standardise error handling, improve data validation, and simplify application architecture.
• Contribute to incident reviews and follow-up improvements when application or integration failures reveal weaknesses in existing processes.
• Communicate technical risks, external dependencies, delivery estimates, and unresolved issues clearly to the wider engineering team.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Professional experience developing and maintaining full-stack web applications.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript and experience with a modern frontend framework.
• Experience developing backend applications, APIs, or integration services using Node.js or another suitable server-side technology.
• Good understanding of REST API design, HTTP protocols, JSON data structures, request validation, and error-handling patterns.
• Experience integrating applications with third-party APIs or external business systems.
• Practical knowledge of relational databases and SQL, including query development, schema relationships, and data consistency.
• Understanding of authentication, authorisation, API credentials, secure configuration, and protection of sensitive data.
• Experience writing automated tests for backend logic, API endpoints, data transformations, or application workflows.
• Familiarity with Git, code reviews, continuous integration, and collaborative software development practices.
• Ability to investigate issues across frontend, backend, network, and database layers.
• Understanding of application logging, monitoring, debugging, and performance optimisation.
• Familiarity with Docker, cloud environments, message queues, or asynchronous processing is an advantage.
• Strong analytical skills and a systematic approach to troubleshooting complex technical problems.
• Ability to document technical decisions and communicate integration requirements to other engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
• Good time management and the ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with a remote engineering team.
• A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is advantageous but not essential where equivalent practical experience can be demonstrated.
• Professional proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Estonian is an advantage.
