Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliability-focused Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to improve the availability, performance, scalability, and operational resilience of software platforms supporting a technology-driven organisation in Estonia. The successful candidate will combine software engineering, infrastructure automation, observability, and operational expertise to ensure that production systems remain dependable as business requirements and user demand evolve.
Working closely with software engineers, platform engineers, DevOps specialists, security professionals, and product teams, the Site Reliability Engineer will design and maintain reliable infrastructure, automate repetitive operational tasks, establish meaningful service-level objectives, and improve the organisation’s ability to detect, investigate, and resolve production incidents.
In a fintech environment, the role may also support payment services, transaction-processing systems, financial APIs, customer-facing applications, and other services where availability, data integrity, and secure operations are essential. The engineer will help balance rapid software delivery with operational stability through measurable reliability practices, proactive risk reduction, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is technically strong, analytical, and comfortable working across application and infrastructure layers. They should understand distributed systems, cloud-native technologies, monitoring, incident management, and automation, with a commitment to building systems that are resilient, observable, and maintainable.

- Work with development teams to improve application resilience through appropriate timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, graceful degradation, and failure-handling mechanisms.
- Support the design of highly available services and fault-tolerant infrastructure appropriate to business requirements.
- Review system dependencies and identify single points of failure that could affect critical services.
2. Service-Level Objectives and Reliability Engineering
- Define and maintain service-level indicators (SLIs), service-level objectives (SLOs), and service-level agreements (SLAs) where appropriate.
- Establish meaningful reliability measurements for availability, latency, error rates, throughput, and other service-specific indicators.
- Monitor error budgets and use reliability data to inform release decisions and prioritise engineering improvements.
- Work with product and engineering stakeholders to establish realistic reliability targets aligned with customer expectations and business risk.
- Prepare regular service reliability reports and communicate performance trends to relevant teams.
- Recommend improvements based on measurable evidence rather than assumptions about system performance.
3. Monitoring, Logging, and Observability
- Develop and maintain monitoring systems, dashboards, alerts, logs, traces, and other observability tools.
- Establish actionable alerting rules that identify meaningful service degradation while minimising unnecessary notifications.
- Implement distributed tracing and structured logging to improve visibility across interconnected services.
- Analyse telemetry data to identify performance bottlenecks, abnormal system behaviour, and potential infrastructure failures.
- Ensure that operational dashboards provide clear information about service health, dependencies, and resource utilisation.
- Improve diagnostic capabilities so that engineers can investigate incidents quickly and accurately.
4. Cloud Infrastructure and Platform Operations
- Manage and optimise cloud infrastructure across relevant environments, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Maintain infrastructure configurations using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or comparable technologies.

- Collaborate with platform teams to improve the reliability and maintainability of shared infrastructure services.
5. Automation and Operational Tooling
- Develop scripts, tools, and automation workflows to reduce repetitive operational work and improve service consistency.
- Automate routine tasks involving deployment verification, infrastructure checks, system maintenance, and incident diagnostics.
- Use programming or scripting languages such as Python, Go, Bash, or similar technologies to build reliable operational tools.
- Identify manual processes that introduce avoidable errors or consume excessive engineering time.
- Maintain clear documentation, testing, and version control for automation code.
- Promote engineering approaches that reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.
6. Incident Response and Problem Management
- Participate in incident response activities, including detection, triage, investigation, mitigation, recovery, and communication.
- Coordinate technical troubleshooting with software engineering, infrastructure, security, and other relevant teams.
- Maintain incident timelines, document root causes, and support blameless post-incident reviews.
- Track corrective and preventive actions to ensure that identified reliability weaknesses are addressed.
- Help establish incident severity classifications, escalation procedures, on-call arrangements, and operational runbooks.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in incident response readiness and service recovery procedures.
7. CI/CD and Release Reliability
- Collaborate with development teams to strengthen continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
- Improve deployment safety through automated validation, staged rollouts, health checks, canary releases, and rollback procedures where appropriate.
- Monitor application behaviour following releases and help identify regressions or environment-related failures.
- Support release readiness assessments for services with demanding availability or recovery requirements.
- Improve the consistency of deployment processes across development, testing, staging, and production environments.
- Help reduce deployment-related incidents while enabling engineering teams to deliver changes efficiently.
8. Performance and Capacity Engineering
- Analyse application and infrastructure performance to identify bottlenecks affecting latency, throughput, and resource consumption.
- Conduct load testing, stress testing, or capacity assessments in collaboration with development teams where appropriate.
- Establish capacity forecasts based on historical usage, projected growth, and service requirements.
- Optimise infrastructure resource allocation and support cost-efficient cloud operations without compromising reliability.
- Investigate database performance, network latency, queue backlogs, and other factors affecting end-to-end service performance.
- Recommend architectural or configuration changes to improve responsiveness and resilience under load.
9. Security and Operational Resilience
- Work with security and infrastructure teams to implement secure configuration practices, access controls, and secrets management.
- Support vulnerability remediation, patch management, and monitoring of infrastructure-related security events.
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning, backup validation, failover testing, and business continuity exercises.
- Ensure that operational procedures support appropriate data protection, system access, and auditability requirements.
- Help strengthen the resilience of critical services against infrastructure failures, dependency outages, and other operational disruptions.
- Support relevant security and regulatory controls applicable to the organisation’s technology environment.
10. Documentation and Engineering Collaboration
- Maintain operational runbooks, architecture diagrams, service dependency maps, and incident response documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and provide reliability guidance during the development of new services and major system changes.
- Share operational knowledge with software engineers and other technical colleagues.
- Contribute to engineering standards, reliability reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Communicate technical risks, service limitations, and reliability trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Promote a culture of shared responsibility for production reliability across development and operations teams.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Professional experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, systems engineering, or production operations.
