Role Summary

The Financial API Integration Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising API integrations across financial technology platforms. The position involves connecting internal applications with external banking systems, payment gateways, financial data providers, and third-party services.

The successful candidate will combine backend engineering expertise with an understanding of financial transaction workflows to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable integration solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain APIs connecting fintech applications with banking infrastructure and external financial service providers.

• Implement secure integrations for payment initiation, transaction verification, account information, and financial data exchange.

• Develop RESTful API services and support webhook-based communication between interconnected platforms.

• Collaborate with software engineers to establish integration standards and reusable technical components.

• Implement authentication and authorisation mechanisms to protect sensitive financial information.

• Investigate API failures, connectivity issues, and transaction communication errors.

• Conduct integration testing to validate data accuracy, system compatibility, and service reliability.

• Optimise API performance through efficient request handling, caching, and database improvements.

• Maintain technical documentation covering API specifications, integration procedures, and system dependencies.

• Support the implementation of monitoring tools to identify integration failures and performance issues.

• Work with product and compliance teams to translate financial service requirements into technical solutions.

• Participate in code reviews, technical planning, and continuous integration activities.

• Identify opportunities to improve the scalability and security of existing integration infrastructure.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Relevant experience in API development, backend engineering, or financial technology integrations.

• Strong programming knowledge in Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Go.

• Practical experience developing REST APIs and integrating third-party services.

• Understanding of JSON, webhooks, OAuth 2.0, and API authentication mechanisms.

• Knowledge of payment processing, digital banking, or financial transaction systems.

• Familiarity with SQL databases, microservices, and cloud-based infrastructure.

• Understanding of secure coding practices and financial data protection.

• Experience troubleshooting complex integration and application issues.

• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Professional proficiency in English.
