Description

Company Overview

The organisation operates within the global financial markets sector, with analytical activities focused on international currency markets, macroeconomic developments, and the relationship between economic policy and financial asset pricing. Its work requires the interpretation of developments across major economies and an understanding of how changing growth expectations, inflation, interest rates, and geopolitical conditions influence exchange rates.

The global markets research function combines macroeconomic analysis, financial market intelligence, and currency-market monitoring to develop structured perspectives on international developments. It works with relevant internal stakeholders to assess market scenarios, identify emerging risks, and communicate the potential implications of economic events for foreign exchange markets.

Role Summary

The Global FX & Macro Strategy Analyst will assess how global macroeconomic developments influence currency markets and prepare research that connects economic fundamentals with observable exchange-rate behaviour. The role requires monitoring developments across major economies, evaluating differences in monetary policy, and analysing how shifts in growth expectations, inflation, capital flows, and investor sentiment affect currency valuations.

The successful candidate will produce clear analytical reports, maintain economic and policy monitoring frameworks, and develop scenarios for major currency pairs. Unlike a role focused exclusively on short-term trading signals, this position emphasises the broader economic relationships underpinning currency movements and the implications of global developments for medium-term FX market direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor macroeconomic developments across major economies, with particular attention to the euro area, United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and other relevant currency markets.

  • Analyse economic indicators such as gross domestic product, inflation, labour-market data, industrial production, retail sales, and international trade statistics.

  • Assess central bank policy decisions, interest-rate expectations, policy divergence, and changes in the outlook for monetary easing or tightening.

  • Evaluate the relationship between bond yields, real interest rates, inflation expectations, and foreign exchange movements.

  • Investigate how fiscal policy, government borrowing, trade policy, geopolitical developments, and international capital flows influence currency valuations.

  • Prepare regular macroeconomic and FX research reports identifying key developments, potential market implications, and important uncertainties.

  • Develop structured outlooks for major currency pairs, supported by relevant economic data, market pricing, and clearly stated assumptions.

  • Assess the implications of economic surprises by comparing published data with market expectations and evaluating subsequent currency-market reactions.

  • Monitor central bank speeches, policy statements, meeting minutes, and official economic publications for changes in policy direction.

  • Evaluate how changes in global risk sentiment and financial conditions affect safe-haven currencies, cyclical currencies, and currencies sensitive to commodity prices.

  • Analyse cross-country economic differences to identify potential drivers of relative currency performance.

  • Build and maintain economic calendars, macroeconomic dashboards, and monitoring tools to track significant events and changing market conditions.

  • Conduct historical analysis of currency responses to economic releases, monetary policy decisions, and major geopolitical events.

  • Work with FX strategy and trading teams to provide macroeconomic context for market movements and emerging currency-market risks.

  • Develop alternative economic scenarios and explain how different growth, inflation, and interest-rate outcomes could affect currency markets.

  • Maintain accurate records of research sources, assumptions, data revisions, and analytical conclusions.

  • Review previous forecasts and scenario assessments to identify areas for methodological improvement and strengthen analytical consistency.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Economics, Finance, International Relations with a strong economic focus, Econometrics, or a related discipline.

  • Relevant experience in macroeconomic research, FX strategy, global markets analysis, economic forecasting, or financial research.

  • Strong understanding of international monetary policy, inflation dynamics, interest-rate markets, and foreign exchange valuation drivers.

  • Ability to interpret economic data releases and assess their implications for currency-market expectations.

  • Familiarity with central bank frameworks and the transmission of monetary policy into financial markets.

  • Understanding of the relationship between bond yields, interest-rate differentials, capital flows, and exchange rates.

  • Experience producing research reports, economic briefings, market commentary, or structured scenario analysis.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate competing explanations for currency movements.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and presentation tools; familiarity with Python, SQL, econometric software, or financial data platforms is an advantage.

  • Ability to gather information from reliable economic sources and maintain consistent research documentation.

  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to explain complex economic developments clearly.

  • Strong attention to detail, intellectual independence, and an evidence-based approach to forecasting.

  • Ability to work across multiple economic regions and manage several research priorities simultaneously.

  • Comfortable collaborating with international colleagues in a remote working environment.

Benefits

  • Remote working opportunity within Estonia, subject to employment eligibility and organisational requirements.

  • Opportunity to develop expertise in global macroeconomics and foreign exchange strategy.

  • Exposure to international economic research, central bank policy, and global financial market developments.

  • Collaboration with professionals across market strategy, trading, risk management, and financial research.

  • Opportunities to strengthen economic forecasting, scenario analysis, and currency-market research capabilities.

  • Access to relevant economic data, market information, and analytical resources.

  • A professional environment that values clear communication, sound research, and continuous development.
