Description

Company Overview

The organisation operates in the financial markets sector, using quantitative analysis, trading technology, and structured risk controls to evaluate opportunities in foreign exchange markets. Its trading-related activities require a combination of market knowledge, statistical research, execution awareness, and systematic performance assessment.

The FX strategy function works with trading professionals, quantitative researchers, software engineers, and risk specialists to evaluate trading models and improve the consistency of decision-making processes. The organisation emphasises measurable outcomes, robust strategy testing, practical execution assumptions, and appropriate oversight of trading exposures.

Role Summary

The FX Quantitative Trading Strategist will design, evaluate, and refine systematic approaches to foreign exchange trading. The position focuses on translating quantitative research into clearly defined trading rules, evaluating strategy performance under realistic conditions, and assessing whether proposed strategies remain robust across changing market environments.

The successful candidate will understand both the theoretical and practical aspects of systematic trading. They will investigate potential sources of trading returns, evaluate the effects of transaction costs and execution constraints, and collaborate with developers to ensure that strategy logic can be implemented and monitored reliably. The role requires a balance of quantitative creativity, statistical discipline, and sound risk awareness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and develop systematic trading strategies for foreign exchange instruments using statistical evidence, market data, and clearly defined trading hypotheses.

  • Evaluate approaches based on momentum, mean reversion, volatility, carry, relative value, and other relevant quantitative concepts.

  • Translate research findings into explicit strategy rules, including signal generation, entry and exit conditions, position sizing, and exposure constraints.

  • Build and maintain strategy prototypes using Python or other suitable programming languages and quantitative research tools.

  • Conduct historical simulations and backtests to assess strategy behaviour across different currency pairs, market regimes, and investment horizons.

  • Incorporate realistic bid-ask spreads, commissions where applicable, slippage, liquidity constraints, and execution delays into performance assessments.

  • Analyse returns, drawdowns, turnover, risk-adjusted performance, signal stability, and other relevant measures of strategy effectiveness.

  • Perform sensitivity analysis to understand how strategy outcomes respond to changes in parameters, market conditions, and execution assumptions.

  • Evaluate whether strategy performance is concentrated in particular periods, currency pairs, or market conditions, and identify potential sources of fragility.

  • Collaborate with FX traders to understand execution requirements, practical market constraints, and the operational implications of strategy deployment.

  • Work with quantitative developers to specify algorithmic logic, review implementation requirements, and investigate discrepancies between research and production results.

  • Support the establishment of monitoring metrics, strategy alerts, and performance review procedures for approved systematic trading models.

  • Assess model behaviour during major economic releases, unexpected volatility, liquidity deterioration, and other events that may affect FX trading conditions.

  • Recommend improvements to strategy design, validation procedures, portfolio construction, and exposure management.

  • Prepare structured strategy documentation describing the underlying rationale, assumptions, testing methodology, expected limitations, and monitoring requirements.

  • Maintain a clear distinction between statistically significant historical findings and evidence of sustainable performance under live trading conditions.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Professional experience in quantitative trading, systematic strategy research, FX trading analytics, or quantitative financial modelling.

  • Strong understanding of FX market mechanics, currency-pair behaviour, liquidity, volatility, and trading execution.

  • Advanced Python skills for strategy research, data processing, backtesting, and analytical automation.

  • Knowledge of statistical modelling, time-series analysis, probability, optimisation, and quantitative performance measurement.

  • Experience designing trading rules and assessing the robustness of strategies using historical and out-of-sample data.

  • Understanding of trading costs, market impact, slippage, and the potential difference between simulated and actual execution.

  • Familiarity with portfolio-level exposure, correlation analysis, position sizing, and risk-adjusted performance evaluation.

  • Ability to identify overfitting, parameter instability, and weaknesses in strategy validation.

  • Experience working with market data APIs, SQL databases, or quantitative research platforms is an advantage.

  • Familiarity with version control, code review, and collaborative workflows involving quantitative developers.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present strategy findings in a clear, evidence-based format.

  • High standards of professional integrity, analytical rigour, and risk awareness.

  • Ability to prioritise research independently and deliver documented results in a remote working environment.

Benefits

  • Remote work arrangement within Estonia, subject to organisational requirements.

  • Opportunity to work on systematic FX strategy research and quantitative trading development.

  • Exposure to the complete research process, from hypothesis formation through backtesting, validation, and performance monitoring.

  • Collaboration with experienced trading, quantitative research, engineering, and risk professionals.

  • Opportunities to strengthen programming, quantitative analysis, strategy design, and execution-awareness skills.

  • Access to relevant research tools, market data, and analytical infrastructure.

  • A professional environment that values measurable performance, critical thinking, and continuous methodological improvement.

Application Instructions

Applicants should provide a CV detailing their experience in systematic trading, quantitative strategy research, programming, and FX market analysis. Candidates may also describe relevant projects involving strategy development, signal testing, execution-cost modelling, or portfolio risk analysis.

Applications should be submitted through the recruiting organisation’s official application channel. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to explain a trading strategy they have researched, describe their approach to avoiding backtesting bias, or discuss how they would determine whether a strategy remains viable when market conditions change.
