Description

Company Overview

The organisation develops and operates technology-enabled services within the digital finance and software sector. Its platforms depend on reliable cloud infrastructure, secure deployment environments, resilient application services and effective monitoring to deliver consistent experiences to customers and business partners.

The Cloud Engineering & Site Reliability department provides the infrastructure foundations that enable software teams to build, release and operate digital products efficiently. The team works across application engineering, security, platform development and operations to improve infrastructure automation, service availability, deployment reliability and operational visibility.

The organisation values infrastructure as code, repeatable deployment processes, measurable service reliability and proactive risk management. Its engineering teams aim to reduce manual operational work, improve recovery capabilities and establish consistent practices for running production workloads in a secure and scalable manner.

Role Summary

The Cloud Infrastructure & Reliability Engineer will design, implement and maintain cloud infrastructure and reliability systems that support production applications and internal engineering platforms. The role combines cloud administration, infrastructure automation, observability, deployment engineering and incident response.

The successful candidate will help provision and manage cloud resources, improve deployment pipelines, automate operational procedures and ensure that services are appropriately monitored. They will also work with software engineers to investigate production incidents, improve system resilience and reduce recurring operational problems.

The position requires a practical understanding of cloud architecture, networking, containerisation, infrastructure automation and production operations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable troubleshooting complex technical issues, documenting infrastructure decisions and identifying improvements that make systems more dependable and easier to operate.

Working remotely within Estonia, the engineer will collaborate with distributed technical teams to support reliable service delivery, secure infrastructure management and continuous improvement across the organisation’s technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud infrastructure management: Provision, configure and maintain cloud resources across relevant environments using platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud, according to organisational requirements.

  • Infrastructure as code: Develop and maintain reusable infrastructure definitions using tools such as Terraform, OpenTofu or equivalent technologies to improve consistency, repeatability and change control.

  • Container infrastructure: Support containerised applications using Docker and, where applicable, Kubernetes or managed container platforms. Help maintain deployment configurations, resource allocation and service health.

  • CI/CD engineering: Build, maintain and improve automated build, test and deployment pipelines that support reliable software delivery across development, staging and production environments.

  • Observability: Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, metrics and alerting systems that provide visibility into infrastructure health, application performance and service availability.

  • Reliability engineering: Work with engineering teams to identify failure patterns, eliminate recurring incidents and improve the resilience of production services.

  • Incident response: Participate in the investigation and resolution of infrastructure incidents, assess customer and business impact, coordinate technical recovery and document findings.

  • Root-cause analysis: Conduct structured post-incident reviews, identify contributing factors and implement corrective actions that reduce the likelihood or impact of similar incidents.

  • Capacity planning: Monitor resource utilisation, evaluate performance trends and recommend capacity adjustments to maintain service quality as demand changes.

  • Cloud cost optimisation: Review infrastructure expenditure, identify underutilised resources and recommend cost-effective configurations without compromising security or reliability.

  • Networking and connectivity: Maintain an understanding of cloud networking, DNS, routing, load balancing, firewalls and secure connectivity between services and environments.

  • Security controls: Apply infrastructure security practices involving identity and access management, secrets handling, encryption, network segmentation, vulnerability remediation and least-privilege access.

  • Backup and recovery: Support backup strategies, disaster recovery procedures and recovery testing to improve resilience against infrastructure failures or data loss.

  • Environment standardisation: Improve consistency across development, testing and production environments through automation, configuration management and documented deployment practices.

  • Release support: Collaborate with software engineering teams to identify deployment risks, validate infrastructure changes and ensure that releases can be monitored and rolled back where necessary.

  • Operational documentation: Maintain infrastructure diagrams, deployment instructions, incident procedures, service dependencies and technical runbooks.

  • Reliability measurement: Help define and monitor service-level indicators and objectives appropriate to the services being operated, using evidence to prioritise reliability improvements.

  • Developer enablement: Improve internal infrastructure tools and workflows so that engineering teams can provision resources, deploy applications and troubleshoot services efficiently.

  • Continuous improvement: Evaluate emerging cloud engineering practices and recommend improvements to automation, operational efficiency, infrastructure security and service reliability.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cloud Computing, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

  • Professional experience in cloud infrastructure, site reliability engineering, platform engineering, DevOps or systems engineering.

  • Practical experience with at least one major cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.

  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, preferably Terraform, OpenTofu or comparable technologies.

  • Understanding of Linux administration, networking fundamentals, system performance and production troubleshooting.

  • Familiarity with Docker, container orchestration and Kubernetes or managed container services.

  • Experience maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or equivalent platforms.

  • Knowledge of monitoring, logging and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or comparable systems.

  • Understanding of cloud identity and access management, encryption, secrets management and infrastructure security controls.

  • Ability to investigate service incidents methodically, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Familiarity with backup, recovery, resilience planning and disaster recovery practices.

  • Understanding of service-level indicators, service-level objectives and operational performance measurement is beneficial.

  • Ability to document infrastructure processes and communicate technical issues clearly across engineering teams.

  • Experience supporting fintech, payments, banking applications or other business-critical digital services is an advantage.

  • Strong analytical thinking, organisational skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

  • Professional English proficiency.

Benefits

  • Remote working within Estonia, with opportunities to collaborate with cloud, platform and software engineering teams.

  • Opportunity to improve the infrastructure supporting modern digital products and business-critical applications.

  • Exposure to cloud architecture, infrastructure automation, observability and reliability engineering.

  • Professional development through technical problem-solving, infrastructure projects and incident analysis.

  • Opportunities to strengthen expertise in cloud security, deployment automation and production resilience.

  • A working environment that values automation, operational discipline, documentation and continuous improvement.

  • Collaboration with engineers responsible for application development, platform services and production operations.

  • Opportunities to contribute to infrastructure standards and improvements that support long-term technical scalability.

Application Instructions

Applicants should submit an up-to-date CV highlighting their cloud platforms, infrastructure automation experience, container technologies, deployment tooling and production operations responsibilities.

Candidates are encouraged to describe infrastructure projects they have delivered, including improvements to deployment reliability, monitoring coverage, incident recovery or cloud resource efficiency. Public technical projects or appropriately anonymised examples may be included where relevant.

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to discuss cloud architecture, infrastructure-as-code practices, incident response or the design of a reliable deployment pipeline.
