Role Summary

The Remote Full-Stack Engineer will contribute to the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of web applications across both frontend and backend layers. The role involves building user interfaces, implementing server-side functionality, designing and integrating APIs, working with databases, and supporting the reliable delivery of application features.

The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between client-side and server-side development, evaluating technical trade-offs, and collaborating with other engineers to deliver complete product functionality. This includes developing reusable interface components, implementing business logic, maintaining data models, writing automated tests, and investigating issues that affect application performance or reliability.

The position requires a balanced understanding of modern web development rather than exclusive specialisation in one layer. The engineer will be expected to take ownership of assigned features from initial technical discussion through implementation, testing, documentation, and release support. Experience with cloud environments, automated deployment, and secure application development will be valuable.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end web application features spanning frontend interfaces, backend services, APIs, and data persistence.
• Build responsive user interfaces using modern JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks such as React, Vue, or comparable technologies.
• Develop backend functionality using a suitable server-side language and framework, such as Node.js with an appropriate framework or another relevant technology.
• Design, implement, and maintain REST APIs or GraphQL interfaces that support communication between frontend applications, backend services, and external systems.
• Develop database models, queries, and data-access logic using relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, and other suitable data technologies where required.
• Implement application validation, error handling, authentication, authorisation, and business rules according to defined product and security requirements.
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to refine requirements, assess technical feasibility, and break features into manageable development tasks.
• Work with other engineers to establish appropriate service boundaries, application architecture, data contracts, and integration patterns.
• Write maintainable, testable code using clear design principles, consistent conventions, and appropriate separation of concerns.
• Develop unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to verify functionality and reduce the likelihood of regressions.
• Participate in code reviews, discuss technical trade-offs, and incorporate feedback to improve reliability, readability, and maintainability.
• Investigate and resolve defects across frontend, backend, API, and database layers, documenting root causes and implementing appropriate corrections.
• Improve application performance by analysing slow queries, inefficient API calls, unnecessary frontend processing, and other sources of latency.
• Contribute to application deployment processes, continuous integration pipelines, environment configuration, and release validation.
• Work with cloud-hosted infrastructure and deployment environments, following established practices for configuration management, secrets handling, and access control.
• Apply secure coding practices to protect application data, validate user input, and reduce common web application vulnerabilities.
• Monitor application behaviour using appropriate logs, metrics, error reporting, and operational diagnostics.
• Maintain technical documentation covering API contracts, data models, setup procedures, application configuration, and important architectural decisions.
• Coordinate with quality assurance and support colleagues to reproduce reported issues, validate fixes, and maintain a consistent standard of release quality.
• Identify opportunities to simplify architecture, reduce technical debt, improve development tooling, and make application maintenance more efficient.
• Participate in sprint planning, estimation, retrospectives, and technical discussions within a distributed engineering team.
• Provide clear progress updates and communicate technical risks, dependencies, or delivery concerns early.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Professional experience in full-stack development, software engineering, or building production web applications across frontend and backend layers.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript and experience with at least one modern frontend framework.
• Experience developing backend services with Node.js or another suitable server-side language and framework.
• Good understanding of HTTP, API design, request validation, error handling, and integration patterns.
• Practical experience with relational databases, SQL, schema design, and data-access techniques.
• Familiarity with authentication, authorisation, session management, and secure handling of application data.
• Experience writing unit tests, integration tests, and other automated checks appropriate to the application architecture.
• Familiarity with Git-based workflows, pull requests, code reviews, and collaborative development practices.
• Understanding of software design principles, modular architecture, maintainable code, and versioned APIs.
• Experience troubleshooting application defects across multiple technical layers.
• Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, or application monitoring is advantageous.
• Knowledge of performance optimisation, application security, and production support practices.
• Ability to interpret product requirements and translate them into reliable technical implementations.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a structured approach to problem-solving.
• Good written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with distributed teams.
• Ability to manage tasks independently, balance competing priorities, and provide reliable progress updates.
• A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline is advantageous; equivalent practical experience is also valued.
• Professional proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Estonian is an advantage.
