Description
About the role
As a Senior AML/CTF Compliance Officer within the MLRO Unit, you will play a key role in designing and continuously improving our AML/CTF processes and controls. Operating within the Second Line and reporting to the Head of MLRO Unit, you will turn regulatory requirements and unit priorities into effective processes, documentation, system requirements, and monitoring frameworks.
This is a hands-on build-and-deliver role with ownership of defined AML/CTF workstreams. You will work primarily within the Estonian regulatory framework, including the MLTFPA and International Sanctions Act, while accounting for local AML requirements across relevant markets.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Translate MLRO Unit priorities and regulatory requirements into effective AML/CTF processes, documentation, and operating controls.
- Design and continuously improve AML/CTF processes, including CDD/EDD, KYC, re-KYC, re-identification, screening, transaction monitoring, and risk-scoring frameworks.
- Define requirements for AML/CTF systems and integrations, including transaction screening/monitoring, customer screening/monitoring, scenario and rule design, and ongoing system monitoring.
- Prepare AML risk assessments, risk-appetite metrics, drafts, and recommendations for review and sign-off by the Head of MLRO Unit.
- Own defined AML/CTF workstreams, coordinating process mapping, system integrations, monitoring design, and delivery while providing clear visibility on progress.
- Identify and escalate material exceptions, judgement calls, and reportable matters while continuously improving the practical operation of the AML/CTF control environment.
About you
- You have substantial hands-on AML/CTF experience, ideally within payments, e-money, FinTech, or another regulated financial environment.
- You have practical knowledge of the Estonian MLTFPA and International Sanctions Act, alongside familiarity with the EU AML framework and FATF Recommendations.
- You have experience mapping, designing, and implementing AML/CTF processes and controls, including CDD/EDD, KYC, screening, transaction monitoring, and risk-scoring approaches.
- You are comfortable defining requirements for transaction monitoring, customer screening, sanctions screening, and related system integrations, including scenario and rule design.
- You have experience with AML risk assessments and risk-appetite frameworks, while exposure to multi-jurisdictional AML requirements, Second Line assurance, or quality review processes is an advantage.
- You bring close attention to detail, clear communication, and a proactive approach to complex work, with the ability to work effectively across compliance, legal, operational, and technical teams; a recognised AML or financial crime qualification is an advantage.
